A Second Life viewer is to Second Life as a Web browser is to the World Wide Web. It is how you see and interact with the virtual world. It handles all of the 3D, sound, voice, money, and myriad other facilities necessary.
Linden Lab invented Second Life so their viewer is the Second Life viewer. Lots of people use it. It is less complicated than the popular alternative.
The source code for the viewer is available for anyone else to make one. There are a lot of choices ◄ but Firestorm is the most popular and therefore the one most people can help with.
